Upsilon Tau Omega Chapter currently has more than 200 members. Our membership includes Upsilon Tau Omega Chapter charter members, new members, reactivated members, as well as transfer members from other graduate chapters. The Chapter also has forty-eight Life Members, one Pearl member (Mrs. Kay Campbell), fourteen Golden members (Ms. Edythe Crump, Mrs. Mary Jelks, Mrs. Louphelia Brown Mathis, Ms. Joan Hicks, Ms. Betty Henderson, Ms. Patricia Bell, Ms. Delores Hebron, Mrs. Bernice Contee,  Ms. Shirley Harris, Ms. Alease Parson, Ms. Cecile Kahan, Ms. Dorothy Callwood, Ms. Junetta Turnage and Ms. Donna Davis)
, and many Silver Star members.

The Chapter has nine Ivies Beyond the Wall, Ms. Sylvia Avery, Ms. Deborah Riley, Ms. Doris Alexander, Charter Member and Visionary,  Ms. Brenda J. Taylor-Skipwith, Blondell Barnes, Edith Brown, Marie Smith, Rose Cephas and most recently Lynda Bowman in September 2024. In 2006, the Chapter established a college scholarship in Soror Sylvia's name and currently awards the scholarship annually in her honor.

 


Prospective Members

The Sorority's official graduate Membership Experience (ME) Process is by invitation only through one of our local graduate chapters and may not be solicited.  To learn more about membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority click here.

 


Monthly Chapter Meetings


Our monthly chapter business meetings (for sorority members only) are currently held on the first Thursday of each month, except for July and August at 7pm. (Business attire only.) To gain admittance to chapter meetings, visiting sorors must register for the meeting.  When meeting in-person, visiting sorors must present a government-issued, photo ID and an official Alpha Kappa Alpha financial card or document (current or expired bearing the same name that appears on her government-issued, photo ID and membership number). If you are new to the Southern MD area, or seeking a new AKA home, we cordially invite you to join us for our next meeting!
